Mood

I haven't felt the urge to dance
in much too long it seems
the tune's been dulled by circumstance
along with distant dreams
though now and then I see a chance
when mystic moonlight gleams
and weary feet once more alight
upon the ballroom of the night
each star an endless sparkle from
a mirror ball ad infinitum.

Temporal

No one owns the earth
claim it though they may
a parcel’s price is worth
what mortal means can’t pay
despite the constant birth
of monuments of clay
that bring the mountains mirth
the world just spins away.

Showing

Every morning when I rise
I gaze at grace with different eyes
for pupils awed by love’s array
will gain new insights every day,
their wonder makes them wise

exploring with the curtains drawn
a canvas blanker than the dawn,
so supple one can barely tell
the middle has begun to swell
with adoration’s spawn

and as the drapes begin to part
illuming rays will coyly start
to highlight, as they slowly warm
and elevate a cherished form
from functional to art

while all the critics keen to knock
romanticism best take stock
when purest passion predicates
how any medium relates
as earnest lovers lock.

Corrosive

More than mediocre
or simply less mundane?
when iron blushes ocher
desire breeds disdain.

Don't Get Pithy with Me

I merely tried to keep it brief
and maybe make you smile
but all it did was cause you grief
and that’s just not my style
forgive the foolish things I say
for laughter keeps my pain at bay.

Upkeep

Each mote of dust is dear to me
iota of infinity
along with all the sediment
that lingers like an old lament—

the residue
that must ensue
because we fail to follow through
when swept away
or dredged someday
can help reveal what fears belay.

Precipitate

I seem so unevolved
like I've regressed as time revolved
it's such a static feeling this
a constant tick away from bliss

and every passing hails
another stab that bluntly fails
despite devout determined dreams
my passion never quite prevails--

redemption's like the rain
another chance to find relief
from droughts that dwindle ones belief
and realize no hope's in vain.

Pushing It

We're all just button pushers
we love to click away
enjoying tactile pleasures
delivering dismay

with itchy little fingers
we poke until it's pink
or watch as free will falters
when people fail to think.

Tradeoff

I realized (to my dismay)
how fast the world can turn today
now there’s nothing left to do
salvation slips away.

Before I really even knew
I witnessed, as the light withdrew,
the shadowy descent that means
a darkness will ensue,

for as our spinning ark careens
apparently it also leans
enough that its perspective jars
the season’s shifting scenes

and while the lack of sunshine bars
a tan, at least we’re graced by Mars—
the benefit when night holds sway
admission to the stars.

Wading

I’m humbled today
for one got away
it seems that my bait wasn’t tasty enough,
but there are more lines
and the sun, it still shines
plus I’ve got a creel that is ready to stuff.

Full

Oh my word, there's a cloud in the sky
so raise your prices, jack 'em high
a lion just farted in it's den
you know what to do, gouge 'em again,

you're puzzled why everyone complains
confronted by your record gains
capitalizing on supply and demand
with greed that makes a glutton bland

while fabricating higher peaks
from bits of dung - the whole thing reeks
much worse than when a cow has gas
and you oil barons , you can kiss my ass!

Bygones

Alas, the Bard’s become outdated
and Homer? now he’s animated
Playdoh is just colored goo,
say Nietzsche and you hear – Bless You,

there’s no one left that tries to plumb
the depths of where we might come from
with eloquence that lifts their prose
beyond the realm of mortal woes.

Sweet

We reach higher altitudes
by braving steeper cliffs
and scratch at what a rose concludes
when taking deeper whiffs,

we fathom what the sea conceals
if harboring a need
to feel the waves caress our keels
while striving to be freed,

and we comprehend humility
by owning our mistake
or tasting how good life can be
surprised by flaming cake.

Graven

The obelisk upon the hill
is a hundred years old
and it'll be standing still
long after I'm cold
but I bear it no ill
that's why it was sold
so time couldn't kill
what flesh fails to hold
regardless how bold.

The stone wall someone started
perhaps some centuries ago
(although they're long departed)
still stands there in a row

and whether young or grizzled
when the winged ones descend
we're just a by-line chiseled
with detachment in the end.

Overshadowed

Oh Venus, you outshine them all
your glowing face keeps men in thrall
along with fellow gods above
that circle you with rings of love

but Jupiter became so close
my outlook quickly turned morose
until you dodged his bold advance
by spinning faster in your dance

attracted to a star instead
so knowingly I shook my head
and chuckled as the night turned cool
around this wistful mortal tool.

Spoiled

Beneath the innuendos of an ego over-billed
are skulking misconceptions that a scavenger is skilled
when all it does is ravage what it never could have killed,

throughout the jungle proper there are many trails to take
and many that lie waiting for an easy meal to make,
for someone up-the-chain to drop a carcass in their wake

with tantalizing strips of flesh decayed upon the bone,
a maggot riddled morsel most of us would leave alone
except for brats that need a trophy they can call their own.

Ardency

Let my words caress you
like a lover on the sheet
each syllable undress you
transparently entreat
perhaps they will impress you
with a need to be complete
then passion may possess you
like the scathing summer heat.

Craftsmanship

Classy words don’t work overtime
but the sweaty images they spawn can—
with dirty determined digits
they manipulate
the convoluted gray
into something concrete
that, when constructed properly,
will last and last
until the light goes away.

Fortification

I've sighed so many times today
my glasses have gone fogged
from all the extra moisture in the air
while struggling to pull away
from the funk in which I'm bogged
but it seems that I've got apathy to spare

I don't know why I'm so inclined
the sun is getting warm
inspiring impatient Spring to start
but somewhere in my mixed-up mind
these dreadful demons swarm
with aims at taking down my battered heart

resistance to this fierce attack
requires some defense
a firm resolve to fight and never flee
I've learned to beat the bastards back
they flinch at my intense
committment that my dreams will come to be.

Exhausted

The taxers take
what workers make
without a hint of any break
except the crack
along the back
of everyone that doesn't slack
but wonders why
they must comply
until the till is pilfered dry.

Jilted to the Hilt

What hurts worse: cold steel meant to rend
or the icier shock of a back stabbing friend
an enabling love that's forsaken your greed
or watching them lavish another one's need?

it isn't always a thirsty blade
that cuts a heart in two
at times the deepest wounds are made
by those we thought were true.

Buckling

Subdue your appetites, my dears, and you've conquered human nature - Charles Dickens

A glutton comes to know
how quickly greed can pinch--
avoiding overflow
is easy as a cinch.

Unrequited

The moon is like a distant love we try
to forget that always seems to reappear
with radiance that dominates the sky,
the moon, so like a distant love. We try
but find we can never deny
the pull of this majestic silver sphere,
the moon is like a distant love we try
to forget, yet always seems to reappear.

Clearing

Behold the shade
and every blade
of swaying grass upon the glade
where wood and stone
though once alone
have eked a tiny spot their own
a pleasant plot
that daisies dot
one petal shy of ’loves me not’
their sweet reprieve
from those that grieve
and fail to ever once believe.

Continuation

Hi! Well it seems I've been tagged by Michael Murray over at Whatever Floats Your Canoe to do a little survey type chain thing. I normally shy away from such trivialities (mainly due to time constraints) but have had a bit more time to network lately so thought I'd play along. Michael and I crossed paths through the A-Z challenge and I encourage you to check out his blog which is now in my link list to the right.

Now on to the post:

The Rules Are:
1. You must post the rules.
2. Post eleven fun facts about yourself on the blog post.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you've tagged.
4. Tag eleven bloggers, however, you can break the rules and tag fewer people if you want. Make suer you hyperlink their names/blogs.
5. Let them know you've tagged them!
6. Have fun!

Eleven fun facts about me:

Absolutely Nothing

There’s no clever metaphor for war
it’s pain and death and endless gore
and those that seem to thirst for more
just make me say — whatever for?

Unwind

If you delete what I said
you don't care what I say
so trifle instead
with those that relay
the comments you deem okay

we all have the right
to write what we choose
and also to blight
dissimilar views
or loosen the screws.

Elective

To rise when I desire
is all that I request
I've walked through the fire
and now I long to rest

the bottom of my feet are charred
the skin completely black
my tattered flesh so deeply scarred
they're threatening to hack

away the only leg
contributing support
which means that I must either beg
or eagerly extort

the means I need to make it through
this fierce short-order life
while doing what I choose to do
to circumvent the knife.

Burnt Offerings

You used to love to smoke a roach
now you feel above reproach
like heaven's just for you and the rest of us encroach

well your hangups are your own
but the arrogance you've shown
is something that I'm certain Jesus never would condone.

Arise

Everyday we play
the pointless game of shame
we like to sneak (so weak)
or just ignore, what for?
Let's vow to live, forgive
we've got to try not lie
for life's a treat that's sweet
every morn reborn.

Accessory

Your halo's showing signs of wear
with little smudges here and there
perhaps you should retract the horns
that tarnished token now adorns.
