Getting Through

All the rules you thought you learned
are based on spans that can’t be burned
but once you join the wretched ranks
their pyrotechnics roast your planks
until you stand succinctly spurned
marooned upon eroding banks

and whether you use steel or stone
you can’t rebuild what you don’t own
so just get used to where you are
and never let encroachment mar
the inner path you walk alone
for it can take you oh so far.
