Behind the neatly trimmed facades
there’s squalor and unrest
a workday widow blankly plods
about her crooked nest
as Doctor Phil extols his truth
and MTV sedates the youth.
Outside among the structured rows
dysfunction dominates
the minds of those that watch their shows
and always close their gates
around a troubled tract
to keep the cover shot intact.
